The beauty of a Circular Seasonal Calendar is that it helps a child visualize the passing of time. They see that the months rotate around the circle and see that they will come around again. They have a visual reminder that after winter comes spring, and then summer, and then fall, and then winter again. It is just as God promised in His Word. “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)
I was reminded recently that this is not always an easy concept for a child to grasp. We were sitting down at the pond earlier this week. My daughter had her nature journal on her lap. Now this is only her second entry in her journal and she can barely spell, but she knows that you put the date at the top so she asked me the month. I told her that it was May (happily it was an easy, short month to spell).
As she wrote the month at the top of the page, she questioned me “Will there be another May?” I told her yes. “Should I write that this is the May that I’m five?” I said that she could do that, but I also explained how we use the names of the years to keep track of which May it is.
I love weaving learning throughout our everyday life. If you seize a teachable moment, your child will see that what you’re trying to teach is relevant to everyday life. Whether it be learning measurements by cooking together or reading the rain gauge, or learning about sets while setting the table, children are more likely to remember things when they’ve experienced them.
I also love using beautiful teaching tools that you can use in the rhythm of your day.

Advantages of a Circular Seasonal Calendar
I created this beautiful circular calendar that you can hang in your home and teach your child about days and months and seasons. The months, seasons, days of the week, and days of the month move independently of each other.
- As mentioned, it will help your child visualize the passage of time.
- The circular nature of the calendar will help your child understand the rhythm of the seasons.
- It can be used year after year.
- It will look beautiful in your home.

Thank you for this. My son has dyslexia and struggles to understand and remember the order of the days of the week, month and seasons.
